Shelly Johnson, ASC recently photographed Greyhound, the World War II drama set aboard an American Destroyer as it crosses the U-Boat infested waters of the frozen Atlantic, starring Tom Hanks.
Having completed The Honest Thief in early 2019, starring Liam Neeson and directed by Mark Williams, Johnson recently wrapped principal photography for director Dean Parrisot on his upcoming comedy, Bill & Ted Face the Music.
Throughout his career, Johnson has earned a position amongst visual storytellers through his directorial collaborations with Joe Johnston. Jurassic Park 3 being their first project. The two went on to collaborate on five more films, including the Hidalgo, The Wolfman, Captain America: The First Avenger and the upcoming SHRUNK.
Johnson’s use of color mixing and aggressive lighting earned notice in 2018 when he photographed Danny Cannon’s pilot, Training Day, starring Bill Paxton, which earned Johnson his forth ASC Award recognition for Best Cinematography.
Other credits include: 20th Century Fox’s franchise Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Simon West’s Wild Card, starring Jason Statham and The Expendables II starring Sylvester Stallone.
Notably, Johnson has also collaborated with Dreamworks and Amblin on a variety of film and television projects in addition to the Jurassic Park franchise, including the Robert Redford – James Gandolfini picture The Last Castle, as well as Lumen and The Others… the latter of which earned another ASC Award nomination
